$10,000 10th Anniversary Grant Award

The proposals are in, the committee has convened, and now (drum roll), the moment you've all been waiting for...

The finalists for the ACCF 10th Anniversary $10,000 grant award are listed below. Now it's your turn to tell us which proposal you like the best. Think carefully about which project best expresses community value (will it provide a service or activity of lasting value?) and strengthens community connections (will it build or strengthen partnerships, collaboration, and connections among its participants, target audience, and/or community?)

The grant will be awarded to the project which receives the most votes. You may vote only once, so choose wisely (and have fun!)

Freeport, Leechburg, Apollo Group, Inc. (FLAG)

FLAG proposes to install gateway public art pieces in Freeport, Leechburg and Apollo that provide a visual connection, which celebrates the common asset in our rivers. The art will make a lasting statement about the character of our communities and be a sustaining element in our regional revitalization effort.

Crooked Creek Environmental Learning Center

The Crooked Creek Environmental Learning Center is seeking funds to hire an Americorps member to expand our hours and operations and secondly, to redesign our website professionally to enhance promotion and keep the public informed of upcoming events. This would help us become self-sustaining through increased public awareness and support.

Progressive Workshop of Armstrong County

Do you have old computer equipment taking up space at your home or office? The Progressive Workshop proposes to "e-cycle" this equipment. Our proposal is for start-up funds, accepting computer equipment at Oak Avenue and then "e-cycling" them. A nominal fee will be charged which will allow the program to continue.

Armstrong Community Theater

The Armstrong Community Theater is seeking your vote to provide a summer musical program free of charge to everyone in the community. With receiving this grant, people would be able to attend a cultural theater production completely free of charge. Due to performance space, seating will be limited per night.

Leechburg Area School District

The playing surface at Leechburg's Veterans Memorial Field is used by many different community groups and needs to be refurbished. We hope to follow up the efforts of the Borough and other groups and continue revitalizing this facility to make this the recreational centerpiece for Leechburg area youth.

Moraine Trails Council, Boy Scouts of America

As good stewards, respectfully, humbly and thankful - we wish to "give back" to our great County, and communities, by tasking 500+ Scouts and volunteers to complete 22 "Good Turn for Armstrong County" projects designed to provide lasting value, instill community pride, and leave a legacy for future generations to follow.

Lenape Technical School & Armstrong Educational Trust

Establishing a pool of funds to help County residents pay for tuition from post-secondary providers will aid in bringing in new education/training programs which will provide a foundation for opportunities for the residents to secure their own futures as well as that of the County by preparing tomorrow's workforce.

Roaring Run Watershed Association

The Roaring Run Watershed Association proposes to construct a permanent canoe/kayak access to the Kiskiminetas River at the Roaring Run Trail main parking area, one mile upriver from Apollo. Additional benefit of the project is the protection of the river bank in this area, thus protecting the parking area.

City of Parker

The Parker Boat Launch Bathroom Project provides a bathroom facility along the City of Parker's riverfront. This grant is a matching grant and includes lighting, landscaping, and site work for a public restroom facility for fishermen, boaters, hikers, visitors to the new Postage Stamp Park, and other visitors to the City.

YMCA of Armstrong County

Aqua Fun and Fitness entices area youth to gain a higher level of well being through aquatic exercise without realizing that it is more than just plain fun. A health care provider and schools support this project. Aqua Fun and Fitness will make a difference in the health of children.
