Just as we are always looking to make our dollars go further when we are shopping, why not make them go further with philanthropy? The Armstrong County Community Foundation is issuing a CHALLENGE to Armstrong County businesses to give back, and we promise to make your donations go further. Here’s how.

The Foundation was created with the belief that all of us coming together could make a bigger impact on the needs that exist within our community and that belief is valid. However, as a volunteer on the grantmaking committee, I see the impact of grantmaking as making a difference to ONE. One child who receives speech services and begins to speak; One teenager who declines tobacco, alcohol or drugs; One talent that is developed through reading, music camp or the theatre; One physically or intellectually challenged individual finding a job; One person finding solace in a park or on a trail; One family finding much needed shelter; or One life saved because the defibrillator or rescue boat was there when it was needed.

What's more fun than a pajama party?

A pajama party for charity! Infinity, the Armstrong County Community Foundation’s Women’s Giving Circle, hosted a pajama party to benefit HAVIN, an Armstrong County domestic violence and sexual assault center. Price of admission? A pair of pajamas or sleepwear to donate! As a result of the party, Infinity has delivered several pairs of women’s pajamas, some children’s pj’s, a beautiful robe, and a pair of fuzzy slippers to the shelter.

As a result of the event, we have decided to make the Infinity Pajama Party an annual event! Hope you get some new jammies from Santa, so you have something great to wear next year

Heroin addiction DOES happen here – be informed!

Many thanks to the Allegheny-Kiski Health Foundation for providing a free copy of their video, “Heroin: Lives Forever Changed” for the ACCF to lend out.

“Heroin: Lives Forever Changed” is an original production by the Allegheny-Kiski Health Foundation, produced in response to the growing heroin addiction problem among teens and young adults. The purpose of the film is to educate the community about the devastating effects of heroin use, both to the user and the user’s loved ones, and ultimately to discourage heroin use altogether–what many people don’t realize is that one time using heroin = addiction. The film is appropriate for audiences beginning at age 14. The film is dedicated to the memory of Jeremy M. Morgan, 12/10/77 – 05/24/07.

ACCF Celebrates Another Year

Thank you so much, Board members and friends, for helping us celebrate another year of service to our community at our Annual Dinner at Kittanning Country Club this week.

Our speakers Dixie Lipnichan of Cherryish Our Communities, Inc. and Zach Burns of the Blind Association of Butler & Armstrong Counties enlightened and inspired us–thank you for all you do to improve the quality of life of our residents!

Also, many thanks to the ACCF Special Events Committee (especially you, Autumn!) for all your hard work, and to Kittanning County Club and Garda’s Restaurant Catering for making our evening special.
