Celebration of Giving
Patty Kirkpatrick, ACCF Board President, traced philanthropy back to its beginnings at the Foundation’s “Annual Celebration of Giving” last evening at Lenape Heights Golf Course. The American philanthropic ethic began in 1630 in England when John Winthrop preached “A Model of Christian Charity” to Puritans bound for the New World, and continues today–377 years later–all over the United States. 89% of American households give to charitable causes, and our country is home to over a million charitable organizations.
The ACCF is celebrating giving almost $150,000 back to the community so far in 2007, and the year isn’t over, yet! With the addition of Education Improvement Tax Credit scholarships, the giving total to date is $374,466, and we look forward to greater gifts to Armstrong County in 2008.
Patty ended the evening with many thanks to the generous donors who make it possible for the Community Foundation to fulfill its mission of improving the quality of life for Armstrong County citizens. She reminded the gathering that, as it says in Acts 20:35, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
