I knitted a sweater for my cat. She looks cute, it was fun, and my friends got a kick out of it. (The cat, however, had to be bribed with chipped ham.) Then I read an article in knitsimple magazine.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation noted in a report examining high infant mortality rates in developing countries that 3 out of 4 infant deaths can be avoided with simple practices such as knit caps to keep babies warm. Babies are dying for lack of warm hats, and I knitted a sweater for my cat.
To make restitution, I donated handknitted children’s hats to Save the Children. You can knit, crochet, or give money. Join me.
